Two medical workers at Guangzhou hospital test positive
Two medical workers at Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital, a hospital designated for treating COVID-19 patients, tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday.
Working at the pathology and emergency departments, they showed positive results in routine nucleic acid tests and were later confirmed as COVID-19 patients.
They were probably infected due to accidental exposure, with the exact causes being investigated, according to the Guangzhou Health Commission.
They are being treated in their hospital and have light symptoms.
People who had close contact with them have tested negative for the virus and were put under medical observation at designated places.
Staff members of the hospital are staying at designated hotels and have nucleic acid tests every day, with the results so far all negative.
Nucleic acid test samples from the hospital‘s environment and 373,668 samples from residents of three adjacent subdistricts have all come back negative.
Medical workers have been transferred from other hospitals to ensure the operation of Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital.
A department for joint in-hospital infection control has been established in the hospital to enhance related training, supervision and implementation of measures.
