Liwan district in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, reported two more locally transmitted confirmed cases, and an asymptomatic carrier, on Tuesday, according to a statement released by Liwan district government on Wednesday.

The confirmed patients are a 74-year-old woman surnamed Song and her 11-year-old grandson surnamed Xu, while the asymptomatic individual surnamed Lei, 38, is Song's daughter-in-law, said the statement.

Song was believed to have transmitted the coronavirus to Xu, a local primary school pupil, and Lei at home, as the three live together.

Nucleic acid test results for the three people came out positive on Tuesday.

An investigation found Song once had breakfast together with a woman previously confirmed with COVID-19 surnamed Guo in a local restaurant last week.

Song, Xu and Lei have been sent to Guangzhou No 8 People's Hospital, a designated facility for COVID-19 patients in Guangzhou, for further observation and treatment. All are in stable condition.

Local disease prevention and control departments have launched further epidemiological investigations and disinfection of public venues the patients once visited, the statement said.

Last Friday, Guo was confirmed as having the virus after her nucleic acid test came out positive. Guo had contracted the mutated strain from India, medical experts said after a thorough study of Guo's clinical manifestations, epidemiological investigations, laboratory tests and gene sequencing.

Guo's husband surnamed Lu, 76, was also confirmed as a COVID-19 patient on Sunday. Guo and Lu are now in Guangzhou No 8 People's Hospital for treatment.
