914 gambling suspects surrender

A total of 914 fugitives involved in cross-border gambling voluntarily surrendered to the public security authorities, the Ministry of Public Security said on Monday.
The total includes 104 fugitives who have submitted surrender letters but remain abroad.
The suspects surrendered after authorities released a notice on Feb 5 urging suspects involved in cross-border gambling to turn themselves in.
The notice, which was jointly issued by the ministry, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, indicated that suspects who voluntarily surrender before April 30 to prosecutors or law enforcement and confess their crimes may receive a lighter punishment.
The ministry said they will continue to severely crack down on cross-border gambling and resolutely curb such activity.
