An exhibition about the culture and history of Hotan prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region was recognized as one of the 10 finest exhibitions in China for 2020 by the Chinese Museums Association on Tuesday.

The exhibition was held at the Hotan Museum, which has received more than 140,000 visitors since its opening a year ago. This is the first time a museum in Xinjiang has claimed the award.

More than 1,300 unearthed cultural relics, along with some 300 pictures, 32 maps and 18 videos in which experts in history and archaeology illustrate the stories behind the exhibits were displayed in the exhibition to give visitors a deeper insight into the culture and history of Hotan prefecture.

Zhang Huajie, curator of the museum said the exhibition should correctly tell stories about people's lives, the cultural diversity of the prefecture and how it was governed over the long course of history.

"Visitors will learn how Hotan became a hub on the ancient Silk Road and what has made the place become more prosperous," he said.
