Li Xi, the Party Secretary of Guangdong province, has ordered thorough and scientific investigations into the causes of the SEG Plaza skyscraper's vibrations in Shenzhen.

Li convened on Saturday a special meeting to listen to work reports from Shenzhen government officials and the investigating expert panel.

Furthermore, Guangdong will carry out special inspections of buildings, especially skyscrapers, in the province to prevent accidents from happening, according to the meeting.

The building had reportedly been shaking from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, sparking great concerns about its safety nationwide.

An official expert panel had launched a close probe into the building's condition since its first sway. For safety concerns, the SEG Plaza had been sealed off since midnight on Friday.

The safety of people's lives is the top priority, and related official departments must perform duties and collaborate efficiently on the safety management of the building, stressed Li.

It is necessary to seek the truth through scientific and solid investigations which can provide residents with a real sense of safety. The government should strengthen the release of authoritative information to actively respond to social concerns. And the government must make every effort to safeguard the interests of merchants and tenants of the building, added Li.

To date, no safety abnormalities have been found yet in the main structure of the SEG Plaza and its surrounding environment.
