The Tibet autonomous region recently launched seven "Red tourism" routes for visitors. It was announced at a recent news conference held by the region's tourism development department.

Red tourism refers to visits at sites important to China's revolutionary history, and has become popular among tourists this year, which marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The seven red tourism routes include a one-day tour in the regional capital, Lhasa, a four-day tour in some of the region's remote villages, a five-day tour of learning at various Red historical sites, and a seven-day tour of sites in the region's western Ngari prefecture.

Most of the routes are patriotic education bases. Tourists also can experience Tibet's unique culture and natural landscapes, according to the department.
