The official website of Beijing’s bid to host the 29th UIA World Congress of Architects in 2026 was launched today to provide the latest information about the bidding process and showcase the image of the host city.

The website (uia2026beijing.cn) has five main sections: UIA Beijing 2026, Media Center, About Beijing, China & the UIA and Discover Beijing. It serves as an efficient and convenient platform to learn about the the ongoing bid and architecture of Beijing.

Beijing kicked off the bid by officially submitting the candidature documents to the UIA in September 2019, some 20 years after it hosted the 20th edition of the congress in 1999. The bid is being jointly overseen by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources and the Architectural Society of China.

Beijing will explore avenues to design and create a more beautiful and pleasant human habitat in the context of technological advancement and social progress.

Beijing’s bid will boost international collaboration by creating a community to unite China with the world through architecture.

Beijing also boasts existing venue facilities and rich event experience after hosting big international competitions and conventions, including the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2014 APEC Summit.

As an ancient capital and the undoubted political and economic center for the Chinese nation, Beijing bears a broad vision for architectural development, having successfully integrated outstanding historic buildings into its modern cityscape.

The other candidate vying to host the congress is Barcelona, Spain. The final result will be announced during the 27th UIA World Congress, which will be held in mid-July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The UIA World Congress, convened by the International Union of Architects (UIA), is hosted every three years by a UIA member. In the past, host cities have received an influx of visitors eager to explore their nooks and crannies of new architecture ideas.
