The Committee for Safeguarding National Security, led by the city's chief executive, will hold a thematic symposium on Thursday (April 15) to mark China's sixth National Security Education Day, the city's No 1 official revealed on Tuesday.

This is also the first National Security Education Day after the National Security Law for Hong Kong took effect in the city, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor told the media before the Executive Council meeting.

This year's thematic symposium will also touch on the electoral amendment bill to be tabled to the city's legislature on Wednesday, as national security can only be achieved when political security is assured, Lam said.

A raft of online and offline activities will be held in the community, including some in schools, to enhance public awareness of national security, Lam said.

According to the designated website for the day, starting on Thursday, activities such as jigsaw games will be held on campus and open day activities will be hosted by the disciplined forces.

Lam said everyone in the city and every organization has a duty to safeguard national security and the National Security Law has clearly stipulated that the government needs to enhance public awareness of national security.
