3 killed, 2 injured in shooting at gun store in New Orleans

HOUSTON - A person went into a gun store and shooting range in a New Orleans suburb in the US state of Louisiana on Saturday and shot two people dead.

The shooting happened at around 3 p.m. (2100 GMT) at the Jefferson Gun Outlet in Metairie, a census-designated place in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

After exchanging fire with "multiple other individuals," the shooter also died, it said in a news release.

Two more people were injured at the parking lot. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment and were in stable condition, said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto.

Officials also said that dozens of police officers from multiple jurisdictions converged on the scene of the incident.
