BEIJING -- Former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people on Toutiao, a news portal and social-media platform in China.

Papandreou expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and people for offering his country help to tackle difficulties during his tenure.

He said he was happy that the Greek government and people provided assistance to the Chinese government in the evacuation of Chinese nationals from Libya back to China via the island of Crete in 2011.

Mentioning that he is currently working on education, Papandreou expressed his hope for further communications with the Chinese youth in the future.
