Investigation begins into police-on-police shooting in Zhanjiang
The Zhanjiang Bureau of Public Security in western Guangdong province has set up a special task force for thorough investigation when it was reported a male police officer had shot and injured his colleague in Xuwen county on Sunday.
A special investigation team has also been sent to Xuwen to probe the case, according to a statement released by the Zhanjiang Bureau of Public Security on Monday.
The incident took place at 5:40 pm on Sunday, when a local police officer surnamed Xu, 40, suddenly fired and injured another officer surnamed Wu, 46. Xu attempted to commit suicide after hitting Wu, the statement said.
Both Xu and Wu had to be immediately sent to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The statement did not reveal details on the case, saying police would investigate the case to its fullest extent and make the findings public.
