Music unveils Spring Festival celebrations in New Zealand

On Jan 23 the 2021 "Happy Chinese New Year" New Zealand Music Competition, hosted by the China Cultural Center in Wellington and New Zealand Music Foundation, opened at the Hunter Council Chamber in Victoria University of Wellington.

The event, co-organized by the Victoria University College of Music, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Wellington Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Chamber Orchestra, supported by the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand, kicked off the local "Happy Chinese New Year" celebration from the China Cultural Center in Wellington.

Sally Jane Norman, president of the New Zealand Conservatory of Music, Catherine Gibson, chief executive officer of New Zealand Chamber Orchestra and Wang Qi, chairman of the New Zealand Music Foundation, joined the occasion with nearly 200 audience members.

For the third year in a row, the New Zealand Music Competition has set up a "Best Chinese Performance Award". One of the winners, Season Lin, a teenager from Christchurch, performed Clouds Chase the Moon at the awards concert.
