Shanghai moves to ensure stability of food supply for holiday season
The municipal government of Shanghai is leveraging all its resources to guarantee a sufficient food supply and stabilize food prices for the upcoming Chinese New Year, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
More people are expected to stay in their workplace during the festival this year, in a bid to ease the travel rush and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
All government divisions and enterprises related to food supply have taken measures to maintain the stability of supplies, and Shanghai residents will not have to worry about a shortage during the Spring Festival that falls on Feb 12th this year, the commission added.
Major wholesale markets of the city have strengthened the supply chain of pork and a backup plan would be put into action in the event of a supply shortage during the holiday season.
Currently, Shanghai Vegetable (Group) Co Ltd is providing 7,000 tons of 180 different vegetables on a daily basis. Procurement and transportation planning has been made in accordance to Shanghai people's preference in selecting vegetables.
More than 1,000 tons of 140 kinds of aquatic products would be available during the Chinese New Year Holiday.
