A session of the Bureau took place under the chairmanship of Speaker of the House Maulen Ashimbayev.

The Chairman of the Senate noted that a number of new overtures were announced and particular tasks were set before the deputy corps by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the opening of the first session of the Parliament of the seventh convocation.

“Qualitative transformations will be continued in the fields of human rights protection, social policy, national economy, regional development, political modernization, and increase in the activity of civil institutions. As the Head of State stressed, the Parliament has a crucial role to play in the implementation of these reforms. That is why the Senate, along with the Mazhilis, should adopt all the necessary quality laws to effectively implement all the tasks,” Maulen Ashimbayev said.

During the session of the Bureau, deputies have heard the information presented by the chairmen of the committees about the results of the deputies’ visit to the regions and discussed the agenda of the forthcoming session of the Senate, to be held on January 21, 2021.

Thus, senators will consider the bill “On Making Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Road Traffic”, initiated by deputies of the Parliament. Among other things, this bill proposes to abolish the rules obliging drivers to carry their driver’s licenses, vehicle registration certificates and a number of other documents.

Deputies also have submitted for consideration the bill “On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the Establishment of the International Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures under the auspices of UNESCO (Category 2)”. Once the document is ratified, Kazakhstan will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of UNESCO’s policy for intercultural dialogue, and our country will also become a regional hub for scientific research in this area.

Alongside with that, senators will discuss the bills “On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of Georgia on International Road Transport of March 6, 2007”, “On Ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Finance Corporation on the Establishment and Operation of Offices in the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “On Ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States on Ensuring Preparedness in the Event of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency and Mutual Assistance in the Elimination of Their Consequences”.
