The imported risk from overseas and other domestic regions outside of Beijing is still the city's biggest challenge concerning COVID-19 epidemic control and prevention, said Xu Hejian, spokesman for city government at a news conference on Sunday.

Beijing reported two new local confirmed cases on Saturday, said Pang Xinghuo, deputy head of the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

One of the two cases is a 6-year-old male who had been having lunches at a home-based dining restaurant owned by a previously confirmed COVID-19 case, a middle-aged female in Shunyi district, where most cases were found during this round of the cluster outbreak in Beijing. Six close contacts of the child are now under medical observation.

The other case is a 34-year-old male who also lives in Shunyi district. He is a close contact of a previously confirmed case.

Wu Xiangyang, deputy head of the Commerce Bureau of Beijing, said the authority has been making efforts to ensure transportation for vehicles that deliver daily supplies, especially vegetables and eggs, to the capital.

"The major enterprises that supply eggs to the capital have both said they will increase the supply to the market in Beijing and not raise prices," Wu said.

The bureau also will strengthen management to maintain price stability.
