A huge snow sculpture based on the classic painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Dutch Golden Age artist Johannes Vermeer (circa 1665) attracted lots of tourists recently at the 33rd China Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo in Harbin, Heilongjiang province.
The sculpture — 12 meters long, 9 meters wide and 13.5 meter high — was carved from more than 2,880 cubic meters of snow.
"This painting has been very popular among netizens in recent years, so we choose it as our model," said Jia Shiyuan, one of its creators. "The sculpture is a three-dimensional painting that is magnified ten times."
