An airliner carrying 4,000 kilograms of frozen mutton and 13.5 tons of mineral water donated by the Tibet autonomous region has took off from Lhasa on Tuesday to Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, to assist in fighting the recent resurgence of COVID-19 infections.

The shipment will transfer in Beijing and arrive soon thereafter in virus-hit Shijiazhuang.

The supplies were donated by the region's Ngari prefecture, which has been receiving various forms of support from Hebei as part of the province's Aid-Tibet efforts in recent years. After the outbreak in the province, Ngari moved quickly with the donation in a show of gratitude.

Upon being tasked with transporting the donations, the Tibet Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China provided green channels and coordinated airline companies to facilitate the delivery, the bureau said.

Since the coronavirus outbreak last year, Lhasa Gonggar Airport has both received and delivered anti-epidemic supplies, including more than 5,000 tons of goods, including daily necessities.
