There is very little chance of a massive resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic in the coming Spring Festival holiday due to the strict control measures and the experience the nation gained last year.

However, the nation still faces increasing risks because of large population flows and gatherings over the approaching holidays, said Feng Zijian, deputy director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, at a news conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council on Wednesday.

The increasing number of parcels collected and delivered, especially imported goods in cold-chain transportation that may be contaminated by the novel coronavirus, will raise the risk of infection.

"We now face resurgence of novel coronavirus in certain areas, also some sporadic cases, reflecting our great pressure to prevent imported cases," he said.

"But we've also worked out prevention measures for the winter and spring seasons to curb the expansion or possible resurgence of the epidemic," he said.
