The Chinese military slammed the United States' Department of State for holding a political and military dialogue via video with Taiwan on Thursday, the Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the US State Department said Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Clarke Cooper would deliver "virtual remarks" during the Taiwan political and military dialogue on Thursday, without giving any other details.

Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a spokesman of the ministry, said the People's Liberation Army resolutely denounced the action by the US, which has seriously violated the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques.

"The Taiwan question is China's domestic affair and is related to China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interest," Tan said, adding China will not tolerate any foreign power meddling in this issue.

"We urge the US side to immediately stop all official and military interaction with Taiwan," he said.

"The PLA has the adamant determination and strong capability to thwart any attempt of secession by Taiwan separatist forces and foreign interference, and will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as peace and stability in the region."
