Gunmen attack school in northern Nigeria: police

LAGOS -- A group of unidentified gunmen attacked a secondary school in Nigeria's northern state of Katsina, abducting some students, local police said on Saturday.
Gambo Isah, a police spokesperson in Katsina, who confirmed the attack to Xinhua on the phone, said some "bandits" attacked on Friday night the Government Boys Science Secondary School which is located on the outskirts of Kankara town of the state.
"It is true that some bandits attacked the school at about 11 pm last night but we are yet to ascertain the number of students abducted," Isah said.
He said police operatives have been deployed to secure the area.
