Charity program seeks to raise diet, nutrition awareness
China health service provider Health 100 has joined hands with the China Health Promotion Foundation to raise Chinese people's awareness of nutrition and a healthy diet.
In response to the Healthy China 2030 Initiative, China's national strategy to enhance people's health, the company and the foundation kicked off a charity program, 2020 Public Education on Comprehensive Nutrition and Balanced Diet, on Sunday. It seeks to promote knowledge about grain nutrition and a balanced diet, as well as offer scientific advice on diet and health.
According to a survey, about 80 percent of Chinese adults fail to eat enough grains daily, and the company plans to hold health education activities with the foundation at its health check centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong province, among other cities during December, the company said in a news release.
Excessively processed grains lack some important nutrients, including vitamin B, minerals and fiber, which is not good for health. Improving diet is important to help prevent and control chronic disease, according to the company.
Guo Meiling, deputy president of Health 100, said the charity program is in line with the company's commitment to health education and public welfare, and will continue to support the course of improving public health.
Xu Xiegu, deputy chairman and secretary-general of the foundation, said people from all walks of life need to participate to implement the Health China Initiative, and social groups are important forces.
