The second China Offshore Engineering Design Competition, which wrapped up on Nov 22, attracted 242 teams from Sun Yat-sen University, Harbin Engineering University, China University of Petroleum, Beijing, and other universities to sign up for the event.

Themed on the exploitation and utilization of marine renewable energy, the online competition encourages students to carry out innovative designs of generators of power contained in tides, waves, ocean currents and offshore winds, making a contribution to low-carbon electricity production in the energy mix. It also aims to protect the coastal and marine ecosystem and further develop the marine economy.

Experts from Schlumberger, one of the largest oilfield services companies, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Ocean University of China served as the competition’s judges to rate the design works handed in by participants as well as their performance in the quiz featuring questions related to offshore engineering design.
