A 70-year-old man in Liupanshui, Guizhou province, got his driver's license after eight months of training, Guizhou Daily reported on Friday.

Wang Fei had dreamed of driving a car for more than 50 years but he had no time to learn because he was too busy working. He decided to apply for a driver's license on Jan 16, three months from his 70th birthday, the upper age limit allowed by law.

Deng Shiqi, director of the local vehicle management office, was moved by Wang's courage and made an appointment for his license test.

Wang studied hard under a coach at a driving school and learned from his son at home. After eight months of training, he successfully passed all the required tests on Aug 20 and bought a new car.

Wang is fond of sports and keeps physically fit. (He can ride a bicycle continuously for five hours.) He said he wants to do a self-driving tour of the Tibet autonomous region next year.

"Age is not a problem. The key is to have a positive attitude," he said.

Zhao Yandi in Guiyang contributed to this story.
