The last eight impoverished counties in Gansu, including Tanchang county of Longnan city and Tongwei county of Dingxi city, have managed to end poverty, according to the news conference of Gansu Provincial Government on Saturday morning. Up to now, all 75 poor counties in Gansu have left behind poverty.

By the end of 2019, 67 counties in Gansu had bid farewell to poverty except Dongxiang county and Linxia county in Linxia prefecture, Dangchang county, Xihe county and Li county in Longnan city, Tongwei county and Min county in Dingxi city, and Zhenyuan county in Qingyang city, all of which were poverty-stricken counties.

Since the beginning of this year, the Gansu Provincial Committee and Gansu Provincial Government have promoted poverty alleviation in the last eight counties from aspects including consolidation, promotion, revealing details, and rectification. Eight provincial leaders supervised the remaining eight poverty-stricken counties, while the main leaders of cities and counties were responsible for overseeing the villages and families, respectively. The Gansu Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation did monthly dispatching and tracking, and the relevant departments of the provincial government acknowledged and mastered the situations in a timely manner, studying and solving the major problems.

In mid-October, on the basis of completing the inspection of poverty alleviation of the remaining poor people and poor villages, and a comprehensive inspection of the people and villages that had been lifted out of poverty, eight counties carried out self-evaluations according to poverty standards, and applied to their cities and prefectures. Authorities agreed that the eight counties had risen out of poverty after preliminary examinations at the municipal level, single inspections and acceptance by the industrial departments at the provincial level, third-party assessments and inspections, reviews by the provincial working group on the withdrawal of poverty-stricken counties, studies by the particular meeting of the provincial leading group on poverty alleviation, public announcements, and examinations and approvals at the meeting of the provincial leading group on poverty alleviation.
