Park remembers China's volunteers in Korean War
Li Xiangqun, president of the academy, said the aim was to show the heroism and patriotism of the CPV soldiers, and demonstrate the determination of the Chinese nation to resist invasion and maintain peace.
"Dandong is a city of heroes with a unique culture. It's of special significance to share stories through these sculptures. I hope to show the glorious image and spirit of the CPV."
Dandong is about 280 kilometers from Pyongyang, capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and 13 km from the Yalu River, the border between China and the DPRK. The city was an important base during the war.
The family of Ma Kongyuan, a resident of Dandong, visits the park every weekend.
"I look up the background information and tell kids to cherish peaceful life nowadays," Ma said.
