Luoyang, Henan province, which bills itself as the capital of Oriental museums, has a new landmark following the grand opening of the Luoyang Archaeological Museum on Oct 10.

The museum covers an area of 3,000 square meters and houses a collection of about 300 fine cultural relics dating from prehistoric times to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The ongoing exhibition includes objects from most Chinese dynasties, more than half of which are on display for the first time in Luoyang.

According to the Luoyang Cultural Heritage Administration, the museum is a comprehensive venue showing Heluo culture, a source of Chinese culture that centers on Luoyang. It shows off ancient relics, as well as recent achievements of archaeology. Compared with other museums in Luoyang, the archaeological museum emphasizes the stories behind the relics, giving visitors a new appreciation.
