Scholars from Chinese and British cultural heritage departments and universities have held a virtual talk on the protection, research and use of the Great Wall of China and Hadrian's Wall of Britain.

The online meeting, held Monday as part of the 2020 Great Wall Cultural Festival, was jointly organized by the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) and the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage (BMACH).

At the meeting, experts and scholars from the BUCEA, Beijing Forestry University, Tianjin University, Newcastle University of Britain and the charity English Heritage discussed topics such as conducting aerial surveying and archaeological research at Hadrian's Wall, and demonstrating the cultural value of the Great Wall while building the Great Wall national cultural park.

Chen Mingjie, head of the BMACH, said the meeting will promote exchanges and cooperation between the two walls and help upgrade the protection and administration work in the academic sector of the two countries and around the world.

Similar meetings were previously held on two occasions, with the first organized in Newcastle, Britain in 2018 and the second in the resort of the Jinshanling Great Wall, north China's Hebei Province, in 2019.
