The China Disabled Persons' Federation on Friday held a sales promotion session in Beijing to help bolster the consumption of farm produce and other products from laborers with disabilities.

It was part of a nationwide effort to combat rural poverty by tapping urban wallets, after the novel coronavirus outbreak and recent floods in southern provinces jolted domestic logistics chains and caused lackluster sales.

Among the attendees was Pan Ting, a farmer from Ya'an of Sichuan province, who has mobility issues. The 22-year-old now sells homegrown tea leaves - a local specialty - on the messaging platform WeChat.

Other products on the promotion list include kiwi fruits from Sichuan province, oranges from Jiangxi province and makeup brushes made in Henan province.

Business representatives also attended the conference seeking potential cooperation opportunities.

While speaking at the event, Xu Gang, deputy secretary-general of the China Commission of Promotion of Publicity for the Undertakings of Chinese Disabled Persons, a nonprofit in Beijing, said authorities have been working to select products and have rolled out a list of quality items whose sales can fulfill the social responsibility while achieving economic benefits.
