This year's nationwide Cybersecurity Week with the theme, "cybersecurity for and by the people", will kick off on Sept 14, the top internet watchdog said on Friday.

The event, which will run till Sept 20, is jointly organized by 10 government agencies, including the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education.

The week's main summit will be held in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on Sept 14, a CAC statement said. Several other major events will also be held in the city.

From Sept 15 to 16, a total of 11 forums will be open to the public covering issues such as protection of personal information on smartphone applications, education of cybersecurity talent and security for online ride-hailing services, it said.

Four of the forums will be hosted in Zhengzhou and the remainder online due to ongoing health precautions over the COVID-19 outbreak.

Huang Qing, head of the city's publicity department, said the forums will be held in a recently built museum, which will help promote its long-term use for the public to understand science, technology and security knowledge.

Residents can also visit an online digital expo that has attracted a large number of internet and technology giants as well as telecommunication and financial enterprises.

The participants include Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, Qihoo 360 and China Mobile, Huang said.

"Additionally, we'll hold a cybersecurity competition, hoping to find and educate more talent in the security field," he added.
