'Empty' village fills with plum jobs

A boom in demand for the stone fruit has revitalized the once almost abandoned area

However, in recent years a boom in demand for plums has seen young people stream back to Wuniu to try to grow the stone fruit.

Last year, nearly 150 metric tons of xiantao plums were harvested by villagers and sold for more than 1.8 million yuan ($260,280).

About 600,000 plum saplings were cultivated and sold for 1.4 million yuan, while more than 20 kinds of other fruits were also grown in Wuniu.
