Lightning did not strike the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, a landmark in the city, on Monday, a staff member told local media ThePaper on Tuesday, following viral videos that suggested otherwise.
The staff member added that the tower is equipped with a ring-shaped lightning rod that, in the event of a lightning strike, would channel the current to the ground, keeping the building safe.
