The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has affected almost every aspect of life.
During this difficult time, it is hard to hold public gatherings, and people are encouraged to follow social distancing rules to curb the spread of the virus.
As such, many countries and territories have delayed or canceled elections.
According to statistics released on July 27 by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, at least 68 countries and territories have postponed national or local elections due to the pandemic from Feb 21 to July 26.
The move to postpone elections is the most responsible option to protect public health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
