The Tibet autonomous region received more than 8 million tourists in the first half of this year, representing the best rebound rate nationally, the region's tourism authorities said recently.

The tourism sector in Tibet has played a leading role in China's growth, especially in May and June, which saw year-on-year growth, respectively, of about 27 percent and 36 percent. The tourism sector in general progressed with good momentum, the authorities said.

During the first six months of the year, all levels of tourism departments have strictly followed requirements limiting the number of visitors, reservations and peak flow to reduce the risks of infection from COVID-19.

Starting in March, more than 300 scenic spots were opened to tourists. The regional tourism development department also sponsored various activities to promote travel to Tibet.
