Starting at 6 am on Wednesday, people entering Guangdong province from the Macao special administrative region will not be required to undergo two weeks of quarantine, a statement released by the Zhuhai COVID-19 Prevention and Command Headquarters said on Tuesday.

But the COVID-19 patients and those suspected of having the coronavirus, their close contacts, people with fevers or respiratory symptoms and those who have traveled offshore within 14 days will still have to be isolated at designated venues, it said.

Inbound passengers will be allowed to stay only in one of nine Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Huizhou, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing, the statement said.

People will have to show a health record with a negative coronavirus test result upon arrival at a port of entry in the Zhuhai special economic zone, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Guangdong and Macao are recognizing each other's health codes for all residents at border checkpoints.

The new pandemic prevention and control measure was introduced when both sides agreed to promote the normal exchange of personnel between Guangdong and Macao after negotiations, the statement added.

Currently all inbound passengers who enter Guangdong from Macao are required to have two weeks of quarantine in the province.
