"Also, we want to encourage residents and tourists to travel in a greener way," he said.

Yang Shuang, a resident of Qujiang New District, said he found the new shared bicycles adorable, yet "bearing a great sense of history and culture".

"As a person born and raised in Qujiang, I'm proud of the history and culture here and I believe that the shared bicycles will make it easy and interesting for more people who use them," he said.

Li said that, 5,000 of the Tang culture bikes will be placed in a wide range of places of Qujiang, including supermarkets and tourist destinations. The first batch of 2,000 bikes was in place on Monday, while the other 3,000 will be ready for riders by the end of this week.
