HK govt to require new servants to declare support for Basic Law, SAR

The Hong Kong government on Wednesday proposed, in a document to the Legislative Council, to have new civil servants joining the service after July 1 declare to uphold the Basic Law and pledge allegiance to the SAR, stating this is in line with a requirement under the national security law for Hong Kong.
The document, by the Civil Service Bureau, also stressed the need for appropriate actions should there be any violation of the law. The bureau will continue to consult with the secretary for justice and civil service unions on the proposal.
