A foreigner was on June 30 fined 100 yuan ($14.2) for operating a boat-shaped, kinetic energy vehicle on the road, according to the Public Security Bureau of Changning district.
The German, who currently lives in Shanghai, bought the vehicle – it is powered by electricity generated through pedaling – overseas for 8,000 euros.
According to the authorities, the device was temporarily impounded as it does not meet the required standards for road vehicles in the country.
