Petroleum engineering design competition wraps up

The 10th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition, held by the China University of Petroleum of Beijing, wrapped up on June 14 with the participation of more than 5,000 students and 700 instructors from 27 domestic universities and five foreign universities.
The three-month event aims to improve students' ability to deal with engineering complexity and cultivate a group of talented petroleum engineers capable of innovation and efficient teamwork. It also sets up a platform for petroleum engineering learners from various regions and different cultural backgrounds to conduct academic exchanges and spark new inspirations.
The competition moved online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Extra activities like forums, exhibitions, meetings and debates are all held online. The competition also invited energy companies to launch job fairs during the event, helping university graduates discover their ideal career during this special period.
Han Shangfeng, vice-president of the CUP, said the competition will combine cultivating petroleum engineering talents and safeguarding national energy security to explore the possibility of educating students in a synthesis of competition, research and study.
