Situated in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, Lushan Mountain Scenic Area occupies an area of 302 square kilometers. With magnificent peaks, strange stone formations, unique waterfalls, flourishing trees and flowers, as well as numerous historical sites, the mountain is labeled as one of China’s most famous mountains and was included in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1996.

Lushan Mountain plays an important role in Chinese history and culture, since it is an exceptional representative of Chinese landscape culture and a focal point for the integration of Chinese and Western cultures. It is a special place for many people in China, since it has a history as one of the country's original spiritual centers, being revered especially by Taoists and Buddhists.

With its 12 scenic spots and 474 noteworthy sites, it is a popular tourist destination thanks to its spectacular natural features that result from the mountain's horst origin, such as ravines, grottoes, rock outcroppings, mountain streams, waterfalls, etc. The highest peak in the scenic area is Dahanyang Peak, at a height of 1,474 meters above sea level. Another renowned peak on Lushan Mountain is Five-Old-Man Peak, so-named because the five peaks in question all sit side by side, as it were forming an almost straight line.

Other prominent sites on Lushan Mountain include Xianren Cave, Lulin Lake, Hanpo Valley, Bailudong Academy, the Botanical Garden, the Brocade Valley, the Flower Path, the Three Tiled Springs and many more.
