G7 summit to be held in late June
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday that the Group of Seven Summit was planned to be held at the White House near the end of June. "The president (Donald Trump) thinks no greater example of reopening in this transition to greatness would be the G7, and the G7 happening here and happening probably more toward the end of June," McEnany told reporters at a White House briefing. "So far, foreign leaders are very much on board with the idea," she said, adding that the White House would be the preferred venue for the summit. Trump said last week that he had been considering convening the summit at Camp David, which had been rescheduled via videoconference due to the coronavirus.

Iranian tanker docks at main refinery
One of five Iranian tankers carrying much-needed gasoline and oil derivatives arrived on Tuesday at Venezuela's main oil refinery, officials said. The second tanker to dock in Venezuela amid an acute gasoline shortage, Forest, arrived at the Paraguana refinery complex in northwest Falcon state, Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami wrote on Twitter. He also shared photos of the vessel at the dock. Data from the website Marine Traffic confirmed the location of the ship, which entered Venezuelan waters on Monday. The Paraguana refinery, the largest in Venezuela and one of the biggest in the world, can process 950,000 barrels of fuel per day, but its production has plummeted alongside that of the country's crude supply.

New Delhi endures hottest May day
India is wilting under a heatwave, with the temperature in places reaching 50 C and the capital enduring its hottest May day in nearly two decades. The hot spell is projected to scorch northern India for several more days, the Meteorological Department said on Tuesday, "with severe heat wave conditions in isolated pockets". As global temperatures rise, heatwaves are a regular menace in the country-particularly in May and June. Last year dozens of people died. Met officials said Churu in the northern state of Rajasthan was the hottest place on record on Tuesday, at 50 C, while parts of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh sweltered in the high 40s. Parts of the capital, New Delhi, recorded the hottest May day in 18 years with the mercury hitting 47.6 C.

26 detained over Essex truck deaths
The French prosecutor's office said on Wednesday that 26 people had been arrested in France and Belgium in connection with the deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants found in the back of a refrigerated container in the United Kingdom last year. Post-mortem examinations listed the provisional causes of death as a combination of hypoxia and hyperthermia, police said. The victims, who included two 15-year-old boys, were found on an industrial estate in Grays in Essex, about 30 kilometers east of London, in October. The truck driver had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of the 39.
