Anyone who has studied mandarin, no matter how long, knows that Chinese characters play a dominant role in the language. Unlike the letters in English, each Chinese character has its own meaning and history.

Granted, simplified Chinese characters are widely used in the Chinese mainland, but people can still find traces of their meaningful past in those strokes.

An online exhibition may help you learn more about these characters. Launched by the China Cultural Center in Sydney on May 6, the event is a part of the "Visiting China Online" series of virtual shows.

Divided into seven parts, the exhibition displays the origin of Chinese characters, the invention of paper, and the development of Chinese calligraphy. It also uncovers the background of 25 representative Chinese characters in text and pictures, revealing their hidden history.

Visit the official website of the center at https://cccsydney.org or log on to Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to find out more about the event.
