HONG KONG -- Two former Chief Executives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have decided to jointly establish an alliance aimed at tackling the difficulties faced by Hong Kong after months-long social unrest and the COVID-19 outbreak.

The organization will be led by Tung Chee-hwa and Leung Chun-ying, both vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and will invite 1,000 representatives of different ages from all walks of life in Hong Kong as co-founders.

Focused on the current difficulties in Hong Kong, the goal of the alliance is to assist the HKSAR government to find solutions and help young people to build a better future.

Hong Kong can overcome the current unprecedented crisis only by being united, Tung said.

Echoing Tung, Leung said the alliance is an open platform and aims to attract more people to jointly find a path for Hong Kong, stressing the significance of "one country, two systems", the rule of law, and unity in Hong Kong's stability and development.

Tam Yiu-chung, a member of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), will serve as the secretary-general of the alliance, and there will be 11 deputy secretaries-general, including Tam Wai-chu, deputy director of the HKSAR Basic Law Committee of the NPC Standing Committee.
