HOHHOT -- North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region announced Wednesday it plans to implement 890 major infrastructure projects this year, with an investment of about 130 billion yuan (about $18.41 billion).

In the coming months, the region will carry out a number of major infrastructure construction projects, such as water conservancy facilities, highways, high-speed railways, airports, and information and logistics infrastructure, centering on the new requirements for high-quality development, said Gong Mingzhu, head of the regional development and reform commission, at a press conference.

For example, Inner Mongolia will accelerate the construction of a new airport in Hohhot, capital of the autonomous region, and seven general airports. Meanwhile, construction on data center projects of Apple, Huawei and Alibaba in Ulanqab will be sped up.

The implementation of major projects will not only gradually fix the autonomous region's weak links in the infrastructure sector but also let investment play its role in boosting economic growth and stabilizing employment, said Gong.
