Medical experts from Chongqing shared their knowledge of COVID-19 and their responses to it with their Hungarian counterparts via videoconference on Wednesday afternoon at the Hungarian consulate in Chongqing.

Hungary has seen a growing number of novel coronavirus patients, and as of March 31 counted 492 confirmed cases and six deaths.

"With Hungary facing a challenge, the people in Chongqing stand with them and will provide as much assistance as possible," said Tang Wen, deputy director of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office.

Hungary was the first European country to sign a Belt and Road Initiative agreement with China and plays a leading role in BRI projects, the office said.

Chongqing, a city of 30 million people in Southwest China, had faced serious challenges in controlling the epidemic, as it has close transportation ties to Wuhan, Hubei province, the city hit hardest by the outbreak in China.

As of Thursday, Chongqing had reported three imported coronavirus cases and no new domestically transmitted cases, according to its health commission.

The city had a total of 576 confirmed domestic cases, with six deaths and 570 recovered.
