35 new cases, 6 deaths reported on Chinese mainland
A total of 35 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and six deaths were reported on Wednesday on the Chinese mainland, bringing the two numbers to 81,589 and 3,318, respectively, statistics from the National Health Commission show on Thursday.
All six new fatalities occurred in Central China's Hubei province, the commission said, adding the newly-confirmed cases and 20 new suspected cases reported Wednesday were all from abroad.
A total of 153 people are still suspected of being infected with the virus, and there are 1,863 confirmed cases across the country.
As of Wednesday, China had found a total of 841 imported confirmed cases, 140 of whom have been cured and discharged from the hospital. Eighteen of the imported cases are in severe condition. There are also 152 suspected cases imported from abroad across the country.
Mi Feng, spokesman for the National Health Commission, said at a news conference on Thursday that 26 provinces, regions and municipalities have reported imported cases from 47 countries so far.
Regarding asymptomatic cases, the official data showed there were 55 new such cases reported on Wednesday, 17 of which were imported from abroad. Nine asymptomatic cases were confirmed on Wednesday, all from abroad. A total of 1,075 asymptomatic-infected patients, including 226 from abroad, are still under medical observation.
On Wednesday, 170 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while the number of severe cases decreased by 37 to 429. A total of 76,408 people had been discharged from hospitals after recovery as of Wednesday at midnight.
By the end of Wednesday, 765 confirmed cases, including four deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong, 41 confirmed cases in Macao and 329 in Taiwan, including five deaths. And 147 patients in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 45 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
Hubei, the hardest-hit province on the Chinese mainland, reported zero new confirmed cases or suspected cases on Wednesday. The province also has zero suspected cases at present.
As of Wednesday, a total of 67,802 confirmed cases and 3,199 deaths have been reported in Hubei. It still has 1,132 confirmed cases, including 400 in severe condition.
The province also saw 145 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Wednesday, bringing the total number of discharged patients in the province to 63,471.
