Continued Efforts Necessary to Forestall Locally-Transmitted Sporadic Cases and Imported Cases
At a press briefing held on 29 March by the State Council inter-agency task force on the COVID-19 outbreak, Mi Feng, NHC spokesperson and Deputy Director-General for Communications, said that by 28 March, the number of confirmed cases nationwide had dropped below 3,000 and local transmission of the virus had been contained.
On the other hand, a total of 693 cases imported from 42 countries had been reported, of which 83.4% were from seven countries with more severe outbreaks. There exists no small risk of another round of infections. It therefore requires sustained efforts to forestall the twin risks posed by locally-transmitted sporadic cases and imported cases. Timely detection and swift handling of cases are needed to ensure targeted prevention and control.
