A community serving Taiwan residents and companies, which started construction March 5 in Pingtan city, East China's Fujian province, will facilitate mutual communication and growth in Taiwan and Fujian, the city government said.

The community, particularly for Taiwan residents living in Pingtan, will boost construction and property management from Taiwan firms using Taiwanese style and features in architecture with the province's high-quality standards in construction, the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland, the city announced on its official WeChat account, China Pingtan.

The community is one of 12 cross-Straits projects launched concurrently early this month in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, the closest area on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan.

Since 2018, Pingtan has begun a trial to offer qualification for Taiwan engineers and promote certifications that are equal to Taiwan residents' technical titles obtained in their home province.

The move means Taiwan engineers can enjoy the same treatment as employees on the mainland, and could facilitate their careers there.

Since last year, the qualification has been promoted to the tourism, medical service, education, transportation, environmental protection and agricultural sectors.

Taiwan residents with qualifications could share the same job opportunities in Pingtan.

To date, 62 Taiwan construction companies and seven environmental companies have been approved to launch or participate in 40 projects in the city.
