KMT elects new chairperson

TAIPEI — Chiang Chi-chen was elected the chairperson of the Kuomintang (KMT) Saturday.
Chiang gained 84,860 votes, about 68.8 percent of the total votes, according to a KMT statement.
About 35.85 percent of the 346,000 eligible KMT members cast the ballots in Saturday's election, the statement said.
Two candidates competed in the election. The other one, Hau Lung-bin, got 38,483 votes, about 31.2 percent of the total.
