South China’s Guangdong province has launched an online platform for vehicle owners and drivers to register in advance when they want to drive to the province via expressway network, starting Feb 3.

According to a statement released by the provincial department of transportation, car owners and drivers are required to register in advance the health condition of anyone on board, whether they have visited Hubei province or not, on a platform called Yueshengshi on mobile phones.

All information will be stored and a QR code will be generated. Drivers can show staff at cross-province checkpoints the QR codes which can be scanned in turn.

“Online registration in advance saves time for cross-province checks and simplifies the procedure of filling in forms at checkpoints before drivers are allowed to drive in the province,” the statement read.

Guangdong, with a population of more than 110 million, has now set up a total of 19 cross-province checkpoints in the province’s expressway network to prevent and control the outbreak of novel coronavirus in Guangdong. The province has reported a total of 683 confirmed novel coronavirus cases as of the end of Sunday.
No deaths from the virus have been reported in Guangdong so far.
