Gahai lake, located about 3,500 meters above sea level in Gansu province, is called the "Pearl on the Plateau". It is the home to a species of elegant cranes.

The lake nourishes beautiful plants, providing a paradise for the black-necked crane. The black-necked crane mainly live in freshwater wetlands on plateaus with an altitude of 2,500 to 5,000 meters. This is the only crane in the world that grows and breeds on plateaus.
